Combined Method of Flow-Reduced Dump Load for Frequency Control of an Autonomous Micro-Hydropower in AC Microgrids

Nowadays, microgrids (MGs) play a crucial role in modern power systems due to possibility of integrating renewable energies into grid-connected or islanded systems. The Load Frequency Control (LFC) is an issue paramount importance ensure MGs reliable and safe operation. Specifically, AC MGs, primary frequency control each energy source can be guaranteed order integrate other sources. This paper proposes micro-hydro scheme, combining the reduced dump load nozzle flow Pelton turbines operating autonomous regime. Some works have reported integration methods, but they did not reduce value adjust linearly demanded by users, causing inefficient use water. Simulation results were obtained Matlab®/Simulink® using models from previous research proven means experimental studies. simulation proposed scheme shows that this plant done correspondence with Cuban NC62-04 norm quality. In addition, it possible increase efficiency reducing resistive up 7.5% case study. validation result 60% reduction overshoot settling time temporal behavior micro-hydro.
